Team JAMJAR

Our family was devastated by an initial Diagnosis of Dementia/ Alzheimer’s for our beautiful Mother, Daughter, Sister, Aunty and Wife Jenni Ritchie.

In 2021, at the age of 45 our family began seeing some early signs, symptoms, and behaviours that were unusual for Jenni, and she had begun repeating stories and phrases, had a lowered social filter, forgetfulness, physical angry outbursts, and completing tasks out of sequence. In 2021, Jenni completed a barrage of testing over a 10-day period at the John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle, and after the initial differential diagnosis, we sought a second opinion from the Frontier Brain and Mind centre in the University of Sydney in early 2022. https://frontierftd.org/

We were told that Jenni more than likely had an aggressive form of Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD) and that it was likely that she would continue to rapidly deteriorate over a shorter timeframe.

Jenni’s family was unable to provide an appropriate level of care within the family home or in the Muswellbrook area. They were forced to admit her to a Psychiatric hospital, 3 hours travel time away, for several months, and then later to a supervised/ supported living arrangement closer to her home.

After a difficult and heartbreaking 20 months, Jenni passed in September of 2023. Jenni was extremely lucky to have been able to have her family with her when she passed. We miss her greatly every day.

We are walking to inform people that Dementia is not just something that affects older people, our beautiful Jenni passed before her 48th Birthday.

We're doing the Hunter Memory Walk & Jog to raise funds for the 421,000 Australian's living with dementia.

On Sunday, 23 March, we’ll be joining the Hunter Memory Walk & Jog to show our love and help Dementia Australia.

And we need your support!

Did you know that 1.5 million carers, family members and friends are involved in the care of someone living with dementia in Australia. That's why we're hoping to raise as much money as possible. We'll be walking, jogging, and running to stop dementia in its tracks.

We'd love you to join us on the day, but if you can't, a generous donation will help provide vital services like counselling, support groups, education, and research to find a cure.

Together we can achieve a lot. That's why your donation will mean the world to us.

We're all grateful for any amount you can give.

Thank you to our Sponsors
